Our
Story.

The UnderGround, affectionately known as TUG, is a place with an evolving identity. While it can be challenging to define TUG precisely, it is a space for curious exploration, primarily through movement. TUG aims to attract non-conventional explorers and adventurers—teachers, students, and practitioners alike—who are interested in moving beyond cognitive narratives and delving into the wisdom and intelligence of the body.

Founded by Cecilee Heath, MSW, LCSW, SEP, The UnderGround offers a safe and supportive environment for individuals seeking to explore and heal through movement and creativity.

What we are...& are not...(so far)

A space to challenge habituated movement rather than reinforce it.

TUG is a Creative and Non-Traditional Environment:

TUG is not a Yoga Studio

TUG is a place for non-conventional explorers—teachers, students, and practitioners alike—interested in breaking free from traditional structures and narratives. We focus on expanding habitual ways of moving and thinking, fostering a space for authentic and organic expression.

While we offer yoga-inspired classes, TUG is not a traditional yoga studio. We love yoga studios, and yogis-but our aim is to move beyond rigid postures and conventional cues, encouraging participants to challenge unconscious patterns and explore more liberating ways of moving.

TUG is not a Dance Studio

TUG respects dance as a sacred and essential form of expression, but we do not adhere to traditional dance instruction. Our focus is on how movement feels, rather than how it looks, encouraging participants to let loose and express themselves freely.

Although we are not a dance studio, expect to dance here! We are known for throwing the BEST dance parties with an incredible EDM music DJ (Dawson after Dark, anyone?)

TUG has a non-conventional, playful Atmosphere

Emphasizing fun and childlike curiosity, TUG features playful elements like swings and hula hoops. It is a bit of an indoor playground for grown-ups. We want to make movement a joyful and liberating experience.

Our Team.

Each member of our team brings a distinct flavor to TUG, creating a vibrant and inclusive space for exploration and growth. Cecilee is the wild one behind the vision, but TUG will offer various workshops and classes taught/offered/guided by many others. Check out our Events Page for upcoming workshops.

Oh, and if you'd like to offer a class or a workshop and TUG seems like a good fit, please reach out! We love to try new and unconventional things, in case you missed the memo.

As you will see by some of the pictures here, we like to wear crazy outfits, listen to really good EDM music, and explore movement in community.
